My dad told us he had a sister who had died before he was born...other than knowing her name was Lucille we did not know much about her.  A couple of weeks ago, with the help of one of my favorite nieces, we stumbled upon her gravestone at a cemetery less than a half dozen miles from my house.  We found it on http://www.findagrave.com/, posted by Gloria Simpson.

From what we've been able to piece together - her parents were in Prescott Arizona (he was an actor and had been in Prescott to do a show) when she became ill.  They stopped at the hospital in Phoenix and she was diagnosed with Diphtheria and Septicemia (per the death certificate) and passed away the next day.   Also according to the death certificate the death certificate shows the family as 'traveling'.  How hard it must have been for her parents to bury her and leave her behind!   



I am not sure where Orvey and Bess lived at the time of her death - they had lived in Texas earlier and had relocated to California by 1913. There are many years before Lucille's birth that are unaccountable for at this time.  Lucille was born in 1905 in San Antonio Texas  (per death certificate).

Saturday, July 17, 2010 I went to visit her grave site.  101 years after her death....as I stood there I wonder if her parents were able to visit her again after she was buried.  I also couldn't help but wonder if anyone had ever been to her grave over the last 101 years.  I can only imagine the heartbreak they must have suffered.
