Matthew 28:6

He is not here: for he is RISEN, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

46 years and counting

The other day (April 25, 2010) my honey and I celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary.  People ask me what's our 'What's your secret for lasting so long'....there is NO secret.  It's all about God, commitment and respect.  We never went into this thinking we could divorce if things don't work out, too many today do that....we went into marriage for life and life it will be.  Don't get me wrong, I know there are reasons for having to divorce - infidelity, abuse - but we know that with God as our 'pilot' (not co-pilot) we made it this far!

In a few months I will go to my 50th high school reunion, and a few years later we look forward  to celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary....as we await the next 50 years of life.  What will it bring - how much will things change - we can't answer these questions but we do know that the best years of our lives are yet to come!

Thankful Thursday - A Day Late

My Thankful Thursday posting is almost a day late - I did this on purpose as I had posted another blog this morning and did not want to make you, my reader, have to read two postings in one day.  Soooooo....this one should be up for your first thing when you get up in the morning!  And thus I have accomplished two things! One: I've given you my Thursday posting, and two: since you are reading this on Friday I've done my Friday posting and can center on scanning pictures and preparing postings for next week!

The other day my husband and I were in our yard...we looked up and there in the tree was this bird, just sitting at the top of the world, looking around...a half hour later I went out and he was still there....basking in the sun, enjoying the beautiful day God had given us.  If you look real close you will see the bird at the very top of this tree, kind of in the center/left...a sharp contrast against the blue sky.  I don't know how long he was there - quite a while - but I'm sure he was thinking how thankful he was for spring just as we are.

And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:21 KJV

Zion National Park

zion

As winter 2010 has quickly made way for spring and summer 2010 I think back on a trip we made a couple of years ago, while living in Nevada.  Howard and I had the pleasure of going to Zion National Park. It was late April or early May. It's hard to believe that this beautiful area was so close to home (just a 90 mile drive up the interstate into Utah)...we stayed in a 'lodge' just outside the park and then took the free bus tour through the park.  There is camping in the park but many areas are inaccessible by vehicle (except on the bus to drive by).  The day (and nights) were awesome with the highs near 80 and the lows in the 60s.  The temps in the 'valley' (i.e. home) were already starting to top the 100 degree mark.  We saw many mountain climbers working their ways up the side of the mountain, natural wild flowers in bloom, and water falls trickling down the sides of the mountains.

Now that we are in Arizona we plan on day trips/or overnights to such beautiful places as Sedona, Flagstaff, Williams (where there's a train trip one can take to the Grand Canyon, with the option of spending the night and coming back the next day).  We've also got the 'white mountains' just east of us ....just as pretty in different ways, plenty of camping and a tad bit closer.

I pray these lands will still be around for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren to enjoy with their children.

The pictures below were taken at Zion, from the deck of our room...as the sun rose over the mountain.

Thankful Thursday - Family Close By

We  recently moved back to Phoenix.  We are enjoying being close to family again.  Our daughter and her husband live here also. I'm thankful for the times we send together as 'friends' instead of parent/child.

Last week Kim and I went to get pedicures....the next day we celebrated her birthday with John's family by going to dinner at 'Tee-Pee's' (a Mexican restaurant).  Some weeks we go shopping together.

Kim and her dad go to spring training ball games, movies, etc together.  Howard goes over and helps them with yard work.
This weekend Kim and John are holding an 'open house' to show off the home they just purchased to family and friends.  My sister and her husband are coming from California.

Life is good....we didn't realize how much we had missed this part of family.

Memories - Camping

Hubs with oldest son @ Yosemite

As a child I remember going camping with my parents and brothers/sisters and Grandpa Troyer. I swore as a teenager that 'when I get older I will never camp again'....how things changed.  Two years after marrying we were on our first family camping trip in beautiful Yosemite. Bill was 13 months old.  We had to borrow our camping equipment...but what fun we had!
Dad and Me
To the right is a picture of  my dad and me putting up a tent.  I'm not sure exactly where this was taken but in California there was much camping available close by, both along the beach and in the mountains.  We could literally drive 30-50 miles and be in another world. We camped a lot along the coast at the beaches as well as in the mountains, the desert, or where-ever.  Many times we drove up the coast to Sequoia, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, and others.

Hubs at Lake Cahuma in the Santa Barbara Moutntains

One of our favorite camping spots was Lake Cachuma, behind Santa Barbara.  It was near Solvang (a quaint Danish town).  One time we were there with our youngest son and his friend.  Howard and Robert were in the back of our truck wrestling - Robert kept yelling 'child abuse, child abuse', a ranger came up and asked if there was a problem - Robert said 'yes, he's trying to abuse me'....the smart ranger just shook his head and said 'you look like you need to be abused'.......we all roared!  Of course there was no abuse going on and the ranger was smart enough to see that but what a load of trouble we could have been in!

We camped at Cajon Pass (between southern California and Nevada) on weekends so Howard and our friend and all the kids could watch the trains go by. We camped at Featherly Park and O'Neil Park in the heart of Orange County, located close enough to the freeway that we could hear the cars and trucks whiz by at night.  We camped on Catalina Island a couple of times with the kids and church groups.

We've even gone a few times since the kids have been gone from home but now we stay in cabins or motels!  These old bones don't do well on the ground anymore.

Thankful Thursday - Our Beautiful Country

Yosemite, California

New England in the Fall

Over the last 45+ years we've been blessed enough to do some traveling through this great country of ours - both by ourselves and with our children...each time we've gone to a different place I'm amazed at the world God has given us....truly from sea to shining sea the country I live in is the best.

Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

New Year's Resolutions and Other Things.

2009 wasn't a great year, with God's Grace we made it through. It could of been worse if not for the faith we had that God would pull us through. We are loving Phoenix and ready to move on with life no matter what God has for us. New Years resolutions: 1) grow closer to God, trust in Him more - can we ever get close enough? 2) scan/ organize 45+ yrs of photos and memories. What do you think will be harder?

Onward and Upward! 2010 here we come!
